Tino & Marianne

Our Little World
Alice on God
Alice has recently developed a fascination for God.

While reading a story together, I showed her a picture and explained, "See, this is the little girl's Papa." Right away she began to strongly protest, "No, Mama, Papa there!" (Pointing to Tino sitting at his computer)

"Yes, baby, your Papa is there, but this man is the Papa of the little mermaid."

She began to get desperate and teary-eyed, "No, Mama, no, Papa THERE!"

"Ok, ok, yes, Papa is there".

After a few moments of silence, she turns to me, eyes wide and bright, as if she just found the perfect solution to our little dillema. Pointing to the picture she triumphantly exclaimed, "Mama, this God!"

We were watching the construction happening by our house. There's a digger that she particularly likes. (Go figure, my girly-girl is crazy about machines). While watching the workmen, we noticed that a older man was also watching from the other side of the field with his little grandson. I brought her attention to this, "Look, there's a little boy with his grandpa watching too."

She began to correct me saying, "No, mama, grandpa bye-bye car!"

"Yes, YOUR grandpa is bye-bye in the car, but this is the grandpa of that little boy there."

And once again, "No, mama, that God!"

Another time, after having been sick, I explained to her that Jesus had healed her because we prayed. She wouldn't accept that, and insisted that it was God that had healed her instead.

Yesterday Tino and I were sitting on the couch watching something while Alice was playing nearby. She must have gotten bored and wanted us to give attention to her instead of the video. She carried her stool to the couch, placed it infront of me, got up on it so that she was standing just above me, shook her little finger at me and proclaimed, "God says stop!"
